National League 6, American League 5
July 13, 1965, Metropolitan Stadium, Bloomington, Minn.
Starting pitchers: Juan Marichal, Giants; Milt Pappas, Orioles.
Managers: Gene Mauch, Phillies; Al Lopez, White sox.
MVP: Juan Marichal, Giants.
Highlight: The NL pushed across a run in the seventh inning — Willie Mays scoring after a walk, Hank Aaron’s single, Roberto Clemente’s ground out and Ron Santo’s infield single — to break a 5-5 tie. But the NL couldn’t exhale until the Cardinals’ Bob Gibson stranded Tony Oliva at second base in the ninth by striking out Harmon Killebrew and Joe Pepitone to end the game.
