David Bednar was drafted by the Padres in the 35th round of the 2016 MLB Draft with the 1,044th pick out of Lafayette College. Going from a small college in Easton, Pennsylvania to the pros isn’t all that common, but Bednar kept his nose the grindstone and good things happened.
His first professional season was split betweem the Tri-City Dust Devils and the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Across the two teams, he finished with a 4-4 record with a 2.32 ERA in 31 innings pitched. The 2017 season was spent with Fort Wayne and the Lake Elsinore Storm.
