The San Diego Padres are fielding inquiries for key pieces such as OF Justin Upton and starting pitcher James Shields, but they're also looking to add a piece to their middle infield before the July 31st MLB Trade Deadline.
"San Diego still has interest in a shortstop and young pitching, so it may do some buying as well as selling," CBS Sports' Jon Heyman writes. "They've considered three shortstops in Milwaukee: Jean Segura, Luis Sardinas or Orlando Arcia."
Jean Segura is by far the most widely recognizable name on the list. The 25-year-old shortstop is having a quietly serviceable season in Milwaukee this year despite a lack of pop, posting a .279 batting average with four home runs and 31 RBI.
Orlando Arcia is the X-factor here, however. Consider the top prospect in a thin Brewers farm system, Arcia is hitting .302/.346/.444 with five home runs and 50 RBI in 88 games for Milwaukee's AA affiliate. Sardinas, on the other hand, has been sparingly used by Milwaukee this season and may be consider San Diego's third option in a potential trade.
