Spurs Rumors: Boris Diaw, Patty Mills Trades On The Table?

The San Antonio Spurs have basically won NBA free agency by convincing big man LaMarcus Aldridge to leave the Portland Trail Blazers on a multi-year deal. Yet, the cap ramifications of his four-year, $80 million deal has a chance (albeit, a small one) of leading to some casualities on the Spurs' current roster.

Via Dan Feldman of NBC's Pro Basketball Talk:

"If the salary cap is the projected $67.1 million, the Spurs waive Reggie Williams (unguaranteed contract), wait to give Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green their new contracts (preserving their lower cap holds) and get letters from first-round picks Nikola Milutinov and Livio Jean-Charles agreeing not to play in the NBA next season, San Antonio would have approximately $7.5 million in cap room to sign Duncan. The salary cap could land a little higher, which would create more room for (Tim) Duncan but also raise Aldridge’s max salary. If the Spurs don’t have enough money for Duncan, they’d trade Boris Diaw or Patty Mills."

However, although the information hasn't been released to the public just yet, it appears Manu Ginobili's two-year, $5.7 million deal will utilize the team's room exception -- giving the Spurs nearly $3 million of wiggle room to get Duncan's contract under the cap and keep both Diaw and Mills.

So, there's no reason for panic yet in Spurs Land. But, the trade option is still looming if finances dictate as such.
