With his scoring down, Green looks to contribute in other ways

SAN ANTONIO – With seven rebounds and a season-high five assists in the Spurs’ 118-81 romp over the Jazz on Monday, Danny Green proved once again there’s more to his game than just long-distance shooting.

“The key is you don’t want to be a one-trick pony,” said Green, who scored just 4 points on 2 of 5. “When you become a one-trick pony, you become expendable.

“When shots are not falling for me, I try to find other ways to be effective. Number one is always my defense. Number two is rebounding.”

Green, who fell one rebound shy on Monday of matching his season high, said his second-half benching by coach
Gregg Popovich for some defensive lapses in Friday’s 109-87 win over the Lakers motivated him to bounce back strong in a 103-78 win in Atlanta on Saturday.
