In early December, we all enjoy the holiday songs that return like old friends who have come back to town for the holidays. These songs fill the stores, malls and radio waves throughout December each year. By the time we get near December 25, some of those songs may seem a bit overplayed. (Not, of course, “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”.)
However, I do not get tired of several of the best tunes, including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. This year, with many of our favorite ex-Spurs playing elsewhere, these lines have special meaning:
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
I like to think of the former Spurs players now with different teams as faithful friends, all of whom will gather near to us at least once during the season at the AT&T Center.
