The race for the Spurs’ 15th and final roster spot gained a smidgen of clarity Wednesday, when the team announced four cuts.
Veteran guard Jimmer Fredette has been waived, along with camp invitees Youssou Ndoye, Keifer Sykes and DeShaun Thomas on Wednesday, bringing their camp roster to 16.
The Spurs must jettison at least one more player by Saturday, in order for them to clear waivers before Monday’s deadline.
On the surface, it appears to be a two-man battle between small forwards Rasual Butler and Reggie Williams. Both players have performed well in limited action this preseason, at least relative to the task of making the end of an NBA bench.
