With Jason Kidd in town coaching Milwaukee, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had cause to relive the summer of 2003 when he tried to recruit Kidd to come to San Antonio as a free agent and help mentor a young Tony Parker.
It sounds as if it had the makings of the greatest NBA-themed sitcom since “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.”
“I had this vision that he was going to teach Tony about being a point guard, and they were going to live together,” Popovich said Wednesday. “It made sense to me. I thought it was pretty logical. Tony is 19 years old, and that’s Jason Kidd.
