Summer League availability unclear for Spurs’ Murray

The Spurs released their roster for their Summer League squad on Thursday, and Dejounte Murray’s name is on it. This isn’t surprising, given Murray’s status as the team’s first-round draft pick, selected No. 29 overall in last week’s draft.

When Murray might make his actual Summer League debut remains to be seen.

The Spurs’ summer squad begins play Monday in Salt Lake City before migrating to Las Vegas on July 9. Murray’s availability, however, is subject to the rest of the Spurs’ summer free agency push.

Simply put: If the Spurs aim to conserve maximum salary cap space to make a run at Kevin Durant, they might opt to put off signing Murray until after they’ve gained some clarity with the Oklahoma City star.
