OAKLAND, Calif. — Four months ago, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich sat across a conference table from Kevin Durant, hoping to convince the four-time NBA scoring champion to come to San Antonio.
By the time the two men crossed paths again, at a Team USA mini-camp in Las Vegas in late July, Durant was a member of the Golden State Warriors.
“At the Olympic thing, I just wished him well,” Popovich said at shootaround this morning, as the Spurs prepared to open the season tonight against the Warriors. “You make a decision, you make it a good one.
