Spurs to make debut in virtual reality

SAN ANTONIO – The NBA announced Thursday it will broadcast one game a week in virtual reality this season, beginning with the Sacramento Kings home opener against the Spurs on Oct. 27.

The league, which is the first to offer a VR broadcast, is teaming with California-based NextVR to live stream the broadcast. Subscribers to the NBA’s League Pass will have access to the broadcasts at no additional cost, according to the league.

“We needed to make a bigger commitment if we were going to drive innovation forward,” Jeff Marsilio, the NBA’s vice president of global media distribution, told Bloomberg News.
