HOUSTON – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich missed the team’s shootaround Tuesday morning in Houston to attend the memorial service for Turner Broadcasting NBA reporter Craig Sager in Houston, a team spokesperson said.
Popovich will return to Houston in time to coach Tuesday night’s game against the Rockets, the spokesperson said.
Sager died December 15 after battling a rare form of cancer for two years. He was 65.
Sager’s memorial service is being held at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church.
Popovich often wrote and called Sager during his illness. Sager served as Popovich’s foil during their live courtside interviews on TNT broadcasts.
