Spurs’ Parker committed to Olympics despite Zika concern

Spurs point guard Tony Parker remains committed to playing for his native France in this summer’s Olympic games, despite concerns about the spread of Zika virus in the host country of Brazil.

His pregnant wife and young son, however, will not be making the trip to Rio de Janiero.

Parker’s wife, Axelle Francine, is slated to give birth to the couple’s second son in late July, a few days before Parker is due to report to Brazil. The Zika virus, spread primarily through mosquitoes, can cause birth defects when pregnant women are infected.

“My wife will definitely not go,” Parker, 34, said Thursday.
