SAN ANTONIO – Dejounte Murray said he had “no clue” Sunday that his agent and the Spurs had reached agreement on a contract extension.
The good news didn’t reach him until team general manager R.C. Buford told him at practice the club had exercised their third-year team option on the second-year point guard for the 2018-19 season.
“R.C. came to me and told me and we hugged,” Murray said. “It’s a great thing for me. I’m blessed.”
Rookie contracts for first-round picks are for four years, but the third and fourth seasons have team options. To lock up a player for his fourth year, a team must extend the deal before the start of the third season.
