Spurs coaches take note of Aldridge’s attempts at leadership

SAN ANTONIO – If you were to take a poll of Spurs fans regarding which players are among the team’s leaders, LaMarcus Aldridge likely wouldn’t get many votes.

Manu Ginobili? Absolutely. Tony Parker? Sure. Kawhi Leonard? Making strides. Aldridge? Not so much.

But Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon said otherwise after Sunday’s win over Denver.

“He’s had a great training camp for us,” Hammon said. “He really takes ownership in leading the team.”

Aldridge was asked about those comments after practice Monday.

“I’m just trying to do anything that’s needed and trying to be a leader offensively and defensively at times,” he said.
