Fairly or unfairly, Richard Jefferson wasn’t the most popular player among Spurs fans during his 2 1/2-season stint in San Antonio. The fact that he averaged better than $10.5 million per year with the Spurs certainly was part of that equation.
Jefferson, however, was well-liked in the Spurs locker room. At least one of his former teammates said Monday he was thrilled to see Jefferson win the first NBA championship with Cleveland, after 15 fallow seasons.
“When you see guys who have been in the league grinding for so long and they finally get a title — you’re really happy for them,” Spurs forward Matt Bonner said during a promotional appearance for Big Red soda.
