Pop ‘thrilled’ to learn of Brown extension

SAN ANTONIO – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said he was “thrilled” to learn that Philadelphia gave coach Brett Brown, a former Spurs assistant, a two-year extension despite the 76ers being a league-worst 1-22 entering Friday’s game with Detroit.

“It’s thrilling to see an ownership make a decision like that because they know the qualities of the individual and they don’t just look at the record,” Popovich said. “They know what he’s about. They know what he’s worth. They know what he’s made up of and what he’s done and contributed already.

“That doesn’t happen very often. It’s very, very rare.
