It took a serious injury to countryman Dante Exum, but Spurs reserve Patty Mills will play for Australia in its pivotal Oceania Championship series with New Zealand after all.
Mills had been initially left off the roster by Australia head coach Andrej Lemanis after the Spurs asked him to skip a series of warmup games to continue rehabbing the right shoulder injury that forced him to miss the first half of the 2014-15 season.
It was a controversial choice after Mills’ stalwart play for the Boomers over the years, usually serving as their offensive focal point and team leader.
