DENVER – Former Spurs assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo, who served as the team’s analyst for its TV broadcast Friday, paid tribute to late Houston Cougars coaching great Guy Lewis.
Carlesimo, who guided Seton Hall from 1982-1994, said he never coached against Lewis but knew him well from being around him at Finals Fours and coaching clinics.
Lewis died Thursday. He was 93.
“He was a very, very underrated coach, underappreciated from the outside,” Carlesimo said. “But there have been a few coaches at Houston since Guy, some of them pretty good coaches, but I ain’t seen them back in any Final Fours since Guy V.
