With 5:01 left in the third quarter of the Spurs’ 92-83 victory on Saturday, Tim Duncan swatted away a shot from Philadelphia’s JaKarr Sampson.
It was Duncan’s fifth block of the game, and it made history.
The swat gave the 39-year-old Spurs captain 2,955 all time, moving him one past David Robinson for the Spurs’ career record. It also left Duncan alone in fifth place on the NBA’s all-time chart.
“Obviously, he’s been a good defender his whole career,” said Parker, the Spurs’ career assist leader. “It’s normal he gets the title.”
Not every Spurs player was convinced Duncan actually took home the crown Saturday night.
