Spurs captain Tim Duncan on Wednesday was named the winner of the NBA’s Twyman-Stokes Award, which recognizes the league’s ideal teammate.
The award, honoring former Cincinnati Royals teammates Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, goes to a player “who exemplifies selfless play and commitment and dedication to his team.”
A two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and three-time NBA Finals MVP, Duncan last season averaged 13.9 points per game, 9.0 rebojnds and 2.0 blocks, earning both All-NBA and All-Defensive honors at age 38.
Duncan’s selflessness was again exemplified in July when he took a pay cut of nearly 50 percent to help the Spurs create room under the NBA’s salary cap in order to sign prized free agent LaMarcus Aldridge.
