For the first time in years, the San Antonio Spurs made many changes during free agency.
The exit of many players, on some level, was beyond their control. Rudy Gay, Gorgui Dieng, and our beloved Patty Mills were free to walk away. So were DeMar DeRozan and Trey Lyles, although Lyles departure was quite predictable.
While the sign-and-trade involving DeRozan was in the best interest of the Spurs, but no means was a certainty. The trade nabbed Al-Farouq Amino and Thaddeus Young, but the acquisition of additional future draft picks is the real possibility of making this a win.
