Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer recently appeared on Adrian Wojnarowski’s podcast “The Woj Pod” to discuss a variety of topics, including his new job and reflecting on old ones. That of course includes his most tenured position: assistant coach for the Spurs from 1996 to 2013.
At the 23:06 mark, he briefly discusses what he learned from Gregg Popovich about juggling multiple titles at once (such as head coach and team president). Perhaps the best part is how he grew within the Spurs organization (beginning at 34:34). Funny stories include finding a happy medium between talking too much to the point where Pop would grow annoyed versus not speaking up enough, and making sure everything, even grammar, was perfect before presenting reports to Pop.
