The fallout following Super Bowl 50 underscored an unfortunate truth that many Americans —depending on the way you identify and where you’re from—have already known for quite some time now: Black athletes are often subjected to harsher criticisms than their white counterparts for similar actions.
The latest victim of this unfortunate double standard? Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton.
Before you read any further, stop and ask yourself whether or not you can handle the notion that maybe, despite a black president, racism in America still persists.
