CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Saint Mary's Women's Tennis player Mariia Kozyreva has moved on to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's National Championships.
No. 43 Kozyreva defeated No. 31 Mananchaya Sawangkaew of 12th-ranked Oklahoma State 6-4, 7-6 taking the second set in a grueling 8-6 tie breaker.
Making the NCAA Sweet 16 guarantees All American status for Kozyreva this season. She becomes just the second Gael ever to reach the Sweet 16 and the first since Jenny Jullien defeated Giuilana Olmos of USC in 2014.
The Saint-Petersburg, Russia native will take on USC's Eryn Cayentano on Wednesday, May 25 with a time still TBA.
