SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Improvements were made Friday, but the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team still found itself on the wrong end of the decision, as host UC Santa Barbara eeked out a 1-0 overtime victory at Harder Stadium.
After giving up two goals in each of their first two games last week, the Gaels (0-3) shut out the Gauchos (2-0) for 94 minutes. Saint Mary’s stayed close most of the game, keeping up in shots and even having more on goal for most of the game in a back-and-forth battle.
Just seconds after Morgan Darling had a header shot go high over the goal, UC Santa Barbara countered with the game-winning play.
