IRVINE, Calif. — Host UC Irvine found the right spots Sunday and held on for a 2-0 non-conference victory over the visiting Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team at Anteater Stadium.
The Gaels (0-2) controlled the first half, leading in shots 4-0 and shutting out the Anteaters for 45 minutes. But once the second half began, UCI (2-0) wasted no time getting on the board. Just 59 seconds into the second half, UCI’s Kelsey Texeira buried a loose ball off of a rebounded shot for her first career goal and a 1-0 lead.
The score stayed 1-0 for 25 more minutes, both teams battling back-and-forth, before UC Irvine tacked on another score.
