The U.S. women's attack was purring in the first half with Sophia Smith scoring twice and Mallory Swanson tapping home the rebound from a stellar strike from Smith, while Germany briefly levelled the score on a goal by Giulia Gwinn.
Starter Tierna Davidson came off shortly before half-time after picking up a lower leg injury, with Emily Sonnett replacing her.
