STANFORD, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s softball team jumped out to an early lead and withstood a three-run home run as the Gaels defeated Stanford 6-5 in extra innings in the final game of the Nike Tournament at Smith Family Stadium.
For the second consecutive season, the Gaels have won a one-run decision over the Cardinal at Stanford.
Saint Mary’s struck first in the first inning as Andrea Hazel drove in Hailey Sparacino for the 1-0 lead. SMC would add another run on a two-RBI by Katelyn Mamizuka in the third. Stanford responded in the bottom half as the Gaels led 2-1 through four innings.
