LOS ANGELES — Saint Mary's (12-24, 3-8 WCC) rallied late in Friday's series opener against Loyola Marymount but fell in nine innings by a final of 5-4.
LMU (21-20, 9-5 WCC) initially took a 2-0 lead in the contest off a home run and RBI single in the bottom of the first. The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when Saint Mary's heart of the lineup came up to bat.
The Gaels' cleanup hitter began the inning with an infield single to second. Two batters later, hit her team-best sixth home run over the left field fence to tie the game, 2-2.
