LOS ANGELES — Saint Mary's (11-33, 4-4 WCC) played nearly 22 full innings of softball on Saturday but walked away empty-handed as Loyola Marymount (32-17, 8-3 WCC) swept the doubleheader.
Game 1 The Gaels picked up seven hits in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader including two-hit games from Kimiko Zapanta and Hannah Chew. Kalissa Heihn knocked in the team's lone run in the fifth inning with an RBI double to score Halle Sullivan from first. Saint Mary's had a golden opportunity to take an early lead in the opening inning with runners on second and third and no outs but a groundout followed by a double play off a bunt attempt allowed the Lions to escape the frame unscathed.
