BERKELEY, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s softball team threatened early but the Golden Bears broke open a close game in the sixth inning to defeat the Gaels on Wednesday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
Lujane Mussadi was stellar in the circle for the Gaels, cruising through the first five innings, allowing just one run on three hits before running into trouble in the sixth. SMC was within 1-0 through the first five frames.
The Gaels had their best chance to score in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs.
Cal took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first but the Gaels limited damage with an inning ending double play.
