BERKELEY, Calif. — For the first time this season, Saint Mary's Softball played in the Bay Area, taking on the Cal Golden Bears on Wednesday afternoon. With an opportunity to play some of the better teams in the Pac-12, the first two games of this week serve as a good measuring stick for where the Gaels are at so far in 2022. Aside from the second inning, the Gaels were hanging around with Cal, but ultimately dropped the game 12-1 in five innings. Saint Mary's is now 4-7 while Cal improves to 8-3.
ONE OUT AWAY
Saint Mary's allowed 10 runs to score in the bottom of the second inning, which is when they fell into a 10-0 hole.
