MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's student-athletes were winners of the inaugural Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Community Service Award, announced by the West Coast Conference.
The Gaels participated in 2,711 hours of community service throughout the 2016-17 academic year. The award takes the number of hours divided by the number of student-athletes at each of the conference institutions. Saint Mary's averaged 11.69 hours per student-athlete this past year.
“It's always nice to be honored and associated with such a meaningful award,” Assistant Athletic Director Staci Byrne said. “Our student-athletes enjoy giving back to the community and they are constantly thinking of new organizations to help out.
