MORAGA, Calif. — The No. 23 Gaels (5-2-1, 3-2-1 WCC) played their hearts out in front of a socially-distanced crowd on Sunday at Saint Mary's Stadium but in the end could not complete the West Coast Conference title three-peat as they fell 3-1 to No. 10 Loyola Marymount (6-0-2, 5-0-2 WCC).
Coming out of the halftime break with the score tied 1-1, SMC dominated most aspects of play in the second half with numerous quality scoring chances. The Gaels looked to have had the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute after a beautiful redirect off the head of Boyd Curry but the Lions' goalkeeper Jacob Jackson made a full extension diving stop to keep the score tied.
