BERKELEY, Calif. -- After freshmen captured the attention in the Saint Mary's men's soccer team's exhibition victory last weekend, it was a pair of all-league upperclassmen that provided the scoring heroics as the Gaels battled No. 23 Cal to a 2-2 draw today at Edwards Stadium.
Senior Alex Braman headed home the first score of the game and classmate Rafael Sanchez converted a second half penalty as Saint Mary's registered a tie in its season opener for the first time since 2010. The draw was also the first between the Gaels and Cal since 1997 and just the third in series history.
