SPOKANE, Wash. -- A stifling defensive effort that limited Gonzaga to its poorest shooting performance of the season helped propel the Saint Mary's men's basketball team to a 63-58 victory and its first regular season sweep over the Bulldogs since 1995.
The Gaels improved to 22-4 on the season and 13-3 in the West Coast Conference and moved into a tie with GU for first place in the league standings with just two games remaining. Gonzaga fell to 21-7 overall and 13-3 in league play.
Redshirt freshman Evan Fitzner and sophomore Emmett Naar led four Saint Mary's scorers in double figures with a team-high 13 points apiece.
