The 2016 Rio Olympics was a devastating experience for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT). In the history of the USWNT, from 1991 to 2015, the women have medaled in every single World Cup and Olympic tournament, until the 2016 Rio Olympics. The USWNT lost to Sweden after a penalty shoot-out. The heavily publicized and vocal goalkeeper Hope Solo had a couple of choice words for the Swedish team after the game. In a post-game interview, Solo said, “I’m very proud of this team. But I also think we played a bunch of cowards.
