FRESNO, Calif. — For the second straight week the Saint Mary’s baseball team was edged in the final inning against a top-100 RPI non-conference opponent, this time falling victim to a walk-off home run, as Fresno State edged the Gaels 3-2 Tuesday at Pete Beiden Field.
Scott Silva was Fresno State’s leadoff batter in the bottom of the ninth, and he hit the third pitch he saw on a 2-0 count over the left-center field wall to give the Bulldogs (30-16) the walk-off win. The two teams were tied for 5 1/2 innings after Aaron Arruda tied the game for Fresno State in the bottom of the third with a two-out RBI single.
