MORAGA, Calif. — A late rally fell just short of completing a comeback Saturday for the Saint Mary’s baseball team, as San Francisco held on for a 6-5 victory to even the two teams’ three-game West Coast Conference series at Louis Guisto Field.
The Gaels (23-17, 11-6 WCC) trailed the Dons (17-27, 11-9 WCC) 6-0 after two innings Saturday and were no-hit through five, but they finally got going in the eighth with a two-out, five-run rally. San Francisco starter Thomas Ponticelli threw 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball with seven strikeouts and no walks, only allowing two hits all game.
