SAN DIEGO — The tables turned Saturday in game two of the West Coast Conference series between Saint Mary’s and San Diego, as the Toreros answered the Gaels’ dominant pitching performance on Friday with one of their own to even the series with a 4-0 win at Fowler Park.
Troy Conyers threw eight shutout innings for San Diego (12-9, 1-1 WCC) with nine strikeouts to just one walk while limiting the Gaels (10-7, 1-1 WCC) to five hits. Conyers’ performance came on the heels of Corbin Burnes’ gem in Friday’s opener where he lost a perfect game in the eighth and a no-hitter with two outs in the ninth en route to a 9-0 complete game shutout.
