MORAGA, Calif. — The bats were hot Friday at Louis Guisto Field as both teams combined for 23 runs and 25 hits, but an early 5-2 lead and a banner day from Jackson Thoreson helped the Saint Mary’s baseball team chalk up a season-high 12 runs in a series-opening 12-11 win over Grand Canyon.
Thoreson, who was named last week’s West Coast Conference Player of the Week, went 2 for 4 with four RBIs. That included a three-run home run, his third on the year out of the team’s four.
“The score is what you would expect on a Friday with teams coming out showing their best stuff,” Thoreson said.
