MORAGA, Calif. — It’s 5 a.m. and it’s baseball season. Up gets Edward Haus to go work on his game.
The only peculiarity is… Haus isn’t on a team.
This was Haus’ routine last year. Cut from the 2015 Saint Mary’s baseball team as the 36th man on a 35-man roster, the walk-on freshman had a decision to make. He could transfer to another school and try to play somewhere else, or he could stay at Saint Mary’s and work to get better.
So he worked. And worked, and worked. And all of his hard work and dedication created a steady rise, going from cut from the team to becoming a summer collegiate league all-star and MVP, to starting in left field and batting leadoff on Opening Day 2016 for the Gaels.
