Kings guard Buddy Hield needed three 3-pointers in Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Suns to break a franchise record held by one of the organization’s all-time greats.
Hield went into the contest with 238 3-point goals, two shy of the single-season franchise record set by Kings assistant general manager Peja Stojakovic in 2003-04.
“It’s a good honor to get it, but Peja, what he’s done for this franchise has been terrific,” Hield said. “It’s been special.”
Stojakovic, 41, played for the Kings from 1998-2006, helping the team make eight consecutive playoff appearances. He produced one of the best seasons in team history in 2003-04, when he finished fourth in MVP voting and ranked second in the league in scoring, averaging a career-high 24.
