Kings are reportedly hiring Monte McNair as new head of basketball operations

The Sacramento Kings are hiring Monte McNair, the assistant general manager of the Houston Rockets, as their new head of basketball operations, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic. McNair was one of the three candidates the Kings reportedly interviewed in Northern California this week. The others were Sachin Gupta of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Wes Wilcox, formerly of the Atlanta Hawks.

McNair joined the Rockets in 2007, when Daryl Morey was promoted to general manager. Morey was promoted to the Rockets’ assistant GM in 2018 after serving as the team’s vice president of basketball operations for the three previous years.
