The Sacramento Kings have waived Chimezie Metu, according to a report from Jason Jones of The Athletic. Metu, the No. 49 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Kings at the start of free agency.
It’s not a surprise that Metu didn’t get one of the Kings’ 15 full-time roster spots. Glen Robinson III had a really good preseason and earned the final roster spot over Metu and Frank Kaminsky, the latter of whom was waived on Saturday. Robinson, Metu and Kaminsky all had non-guaranteed contracts.
What is a bit of a surprise is that Metu wasn’t converted to a two-way contract.
