Caron Butler visited the White House in 2012 as a member of the NBA Champion Mavericks, but on Monday, he returned to Washington, D.C. to help honor other champions.
The White House recently nominated 14 individuals as “Champions of Change”. According to WhiteHouse.gov, these nominees were composed of seven law enforcement officers and seven young citizens, all of whom “are building bridges between youth and law enforcement, while improving public safety.”
Butler was invited to attend the ceremonies and share his emotional success story with the audience. Speaking alongside him was Wisconsin police officer Rick Geller, who made a decision that changed the course of Caron’s life back in 1998.
