Last season, a total of 59 players eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing plateau and 56 different schools had at least one 1,000-yard rusher.
There are several reasons for Rutgers’ lack of a 1,000-yard rusher, including:
- Different offenses as Rutgers has had a different offensive coordinator in every season since 2010.
- A backfield-by-committee approach in most seasons.
- An inability to land a tailback ranked higher than 3 stars in the recruiting rankings.
2013:
- Yards-per-game: 129.5 (6th in 7-team AAC)
- Leading rusher: Paul James, 881 yards
2014:
- Yards-per-game: 162.
