PISCATAWAY – One of the primary subplots to the Rutgers football coaching search is this: Will the hire excite recruits?
Well, one of the things most commonly valued in a coach by high school football stars is NFL ties.
Rattling off a list of Sunday stars whom you have coached can be a more effective recruiting pitch than either immediate playing time or facilities.
With four of the top 10 recruits in New Jersey for the class of 2016 still uncommitted, Rutgers still has time to make a late push.
And with a tight lid being kept on the search, it’s not hard to imagine some mystery candidates emerging for interviews.
