It's too early to know for sure, but the recently-scheduled 2020 season opener between Rutgers and Monmouth could be the first step toward the Big Ten revamping its scheduling philosophy.
Specifically: The league may be relaxing its stance against member schools playing teams from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division-1AA) even further.
"There's a lot that goes into scheduling. The Big Ten has certain scheduling parameters, and they've kind of backed off what their scheduling philosophy was a couple of years ago," Rutgers coach Chris Ash said Saturday after the Scarlet Knights' open practice at Fan Appreciation Day.
